About Bene Tan
Bene Tan, a self-taught food photographer based in Singapore has received international recognition and won multiple international food photography awards. He is renowned for for making food come to life with his creative food images.
His affair with photography was not love at first sight. Trained formally in Graphic Design, Bene had a brief brush with photography in art school. It was only ten-odd years later that he picked up the camera again. The hobby quickly took root and becoming a professional food photographer was a natural transition. Work has led him to explore across the world of photography— from commercial, editorial, interior, event, portraiture, fashion, still life to food.
In October 2018, our food photography work for Tong Heng Pastries has been awarded an Honorable Mention in the 2018 International Photography Awards!
In March 2017, Bene & his team have won three international photography awards, Silver, Bronze & Finalist in the One Eyeland Photography Awards 2016 competition under the advertising - Food category.
In October 2016, Bene was awarded Honourable Mention in the International Photography Awards (IPA) Competition 2016 for the Advertising - Food Category. He was also awarded Honourable Mention in the International Photography Awards (IPA) Competition 2014 and 4 Honourable Mentions in the International Photography Awards (IPA) Competition 2013 for his photo entries in Food, Still Life, Portraits and Wedding Categories.
He also received a Merit Award in the Master Photography Competition 2013 for his "The Golden Ratio" series.
His personal work "Dance Singapore" came finalist in 31st Annual Spring Photography and published in the Best of Photography 2011 annual. In the same year, his product still appeared on the cover of LUX LAMPS & LIGHTS by German publisher, Gestalten. In April 2012, his food portraiture was featured and exhibited at the prestigious Mall Galleries in London hosted by Pink Lady® Food Photographer of the Year.
Through the last ten plus years, Bene nurtured his passion in food photography and begin sharing experiences with photography/food enthusiasts alike. In year 2008, he organised his first workshop and has been holding workshops periodically ever since. He was also invited to give talks and teach at organisations and institutions, they include MediaCorp, People's Association, Maris Stella High School, DBS Bank Ltd, NUS and National Library Board.
